Our planet looks big, although you can fly over it in one day. It's called "green," although only one fifth of its wonderful forests remain. The rest have been cut, burned or destroyed. And the rate of destruction is accelerating. The human animal is cutting the branch he is sitting on. Russia is like no other country; it is rich in diverse landscapes, and especially forests. Frontier forests in Russia consist of one third of all frontier forests in the world. The snowy mountain peaks have always inspired people; the green bodies of forest have always been soothing and calming. That's why I like so much the mountain forests that still exist along our southern borders - in Caucasus, Altai, the Sayan Mountains, near Lake Baikal and in the south of the Russian Far East.
